A low cost Flow Cytometer for monitoring yeast

Project Overview

This repository serves as the up-to-date record of the system design and implementation for a low-cost, microfluidics-based flow cytometer designed for point-of-care (POC) environmental deployments. The current focus is on the detection and analysis of yeast cells for water safety analysis.

Core System Architecture

The device architecture is divided into four interdependent subsystems.

  • The Fluidics: Hydrodynamic focusing approaches, lithography, and SU-8 chip fabrication.
  • The Optics: 488nm laser excitation, single-mode fiber selection, and emission filtering.
  • The Electronics: Avalanche photodiode (APD) integration, bias supplies, and signal amplification.
  • The Signal Processing: Impedance analysis and autonomous data handling.
